The comedy world is buzzing with excitement as Shane Gillis' hit Netflix series, Tires, gears up for its third season. The show, starring the Philadelphia comedian, has just received a significant boost in the form of a $6 million tax credit. This generous incentive, issued through Pennsylvania's Film Production Tax Credit Program, will help bring the production to life in the Philly region. The program offers a 25-30% tax credit to productions that spend at least 60% of their total operational budget in the state, making Pennsylvania an attractive location for large-scale productions like Tires. According to Nicole Shiner, co-executive director of the Greater Philadelphia Film Office, incentives like these are crucial for securing and retaining major projects in the region. 'The tax credit program is our primary economic development tool, allowing Pennsylvania to compete nationally and internationally for projects,' Shiner explained. The Tires production team, including creators Shane Gillis, Steven Gerben, and John McKeever, have chosen to set and film the show in West Chester, Pennsylvania. With its authentic Pennsylvania feel, filming on location adds to the show's charm. The production is expected to generate an estimated $24 million for the local economy, including 1,709 jobs, and could reach as high as $50 million in economic impact across the region. This news comes on the heels of another significant production, Mayor of Kingstown, which received $28 million in tax credits. Combined, these projects are expected to inject over $131 million into the economy, supporting nearly 3,500 jobs. Pennsylvania's commitment to the film industry is clear, with 135 new productions approved through the tax credit program since Governor Josh Shapiro's administration began. These productions are projected to bring in over $1.34 billion in direct spending, supporting nearly 40,000 jobs and $505.3 million in state resident wages. As the film industry continues to grow, Pennsylvania is positioning itself as a competitive player, with Shiner emphasizing the importance of maintaining this momentum. With Shane Gillis' Tires leading the charge, it's clear that Pennsylvania is a force to be reckoned with in the world of comedy and film production.
